Private / Small Group Instruction

Kelly conducts small group and private sessions in the Hamilton, Burlington and Brantford areas. These sessions are typically before or after school. Kelly will work 1 on 1 with individual players or with small
groups. Small groups can be pre-set with teammates, friends, etc. and can be customized to the groups needs (ie: Defense groups, Stick Handling, High Tempo Sessions, Strictly Power Skating or a combination).

Individuals can also be added to an existing group as Kelly has open, pay as you go sessions. These individual or small group sessions allow Kelly to give extra attention, correction and feedback to the skater or skaters.

Please contact Kelly to discuss options and pricing. They are exceptional value and extremely popular!

Private Sessions are Proving a Success Worldwide

…For as long as hockey has been played, clubs have conducted on-ice practices either as an entire team or in large groups.

More recently, however, a select few teams in Europe have introduced individual and small group practices(three to five players maximum on the ice)to supplement traditional practices.

The most notable proponent of this technique — MoDo Hockey in Sweden — has historically had tremendous success in developing prospects (including Peter Forsberg, Markus Näslund, the Sedin Twins and from a previous generation, Anders Hedberg and Thomas Gradin).

According to MoDo’s junior program GM, Lennart Hermansson, the results have been outstanding since they added semi-private coaching sessions to the mix. During the 2005-2006 season, ten of their junior players suited up for the senior squad in the Swedish Elite League, of whom five were regulars.

That doesn’t even include the kid who is arguably their top junior player, 16 year old Victor Hedman (whom most NHL Scouts consider a First or Second Overall selection for 2008). Hermansson, who is usually cautious in making predictions, expects Hedman to be an elitserien starting defenseman perhaps within a year and says he has all the tools to someday be an NHL star.

The more individualized training has unquestionably helped accelerate Hedman’s hockey development a full year ahead of where it otherwise may have been at this point, according to Hermansson.

Another point in favor of the training technique: For the last three years, MoDo has accomplished a feat no other team could boast: All five of its teams reached the playoffs in their respective leagues: Elitserien, Junior 20, Junior18, Under 16, and the Women’s league.

The individualized coaching technique is adaptable to any team’s system or style of play. It certainly could be useful for training players up through the junior and collegiate ranks in Canada and the US.
